The East of England Co-operative Society’s Distribution Centre at Boss Hall, Ipswich, is celebrating after completing 25 years of delivering goods to co-operative supermarkets and food stores across East Anglia.

Colleagues from the Distribution Centre, some of whom have worked there since it first opened, shared not only their memories, but also a special anniversary cake to mark the occasion.  The large cake, big enough for everyone to enjoy, featured an image of one of the Society’s delivery vehicles with its distinctive branding. 

The Distribution Centre employs over 200 people and delivers goods to more than 200 Co-operative supermarkets and food stores across East Anglia, including 135 East of England Co-operative stores, plus stores operated by Anglia and Chelmsford Star Co-operative Societies, as well as the Co-operative Group.

Its fleet of vehicles travels over 900,000 miles every year to deliver goods to Co-op stores, whatever the weather, and drivers battled through the recent snow and ice to make sure that deliveries were maintained to the Co-op’s network of food stores across East Anglia.

Richard Samson, Chief Executive said:  “Our Distribution Centre is a key part of our supply chain making sure that goods are on the shelves for our customers.  It played a crucial part in keeping our stores stocked during the recent bad weather and I’m delighted that we are able to celebrate the success it has achieved over the past 25 years.”
