Fish smoked by a local fishmonger is now on sale in the East of England Co-operative Society’s food store in Wivenhoe, as well as other selected stores in Essex and Suffolk.
As part of the Society’s Local Sourcing Initiative, a range of fish from specialist smokers Ken Green Fish of Clacton-on-Sea is now available in store. The range includes sliced smoked mackerel, haddock, trout and kippers, as well as sliced or baked smoked salmon and smoked prawns. Ken Green Fish is a long established family business of fish smokers and merchants going back generations, just 12 miles away in Clacton-on-Sea. Kevin Warden, the Society’s Local Sourcing Manager said: “The range from Ken Green Fish had already proved popular in a number of stores where we initially stocked this excellent locally smoked fish. Due to popular demand we have now extended it to the Wivenhoe food store where is has been very well received.” Typically, an East of England Co-op food store will have products from Tastes of Anglia and also those sourced directly from other local producers and growers. These products are not travelling huge distances to be packed in processing depots miles away, but are picked, packed and delivered from as little as a few hundred yards to no more than thirty miles away. The Ken Green Fish range is also available in Brightlingsea, Clacton, Frinton, Burnham-on-Crouch, Walton-on-the-Naze, Holland-on-Sea, and Peartree Road in Colchester. As well as Suffolk stores in Aldeburgh, Woodbridge, Caudwell Hall Road and Heath Road in Ipswich. PHOTO CAPTION: Ken Green with some of his selection of locally smoked fish.
